Mandarava Chulen - Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche

The recipe for this wonderful, life-supporting formula was revealed as a Terma, or 'revealed treasure' by the modern Buddhist master and teacher, Chogyal Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche, as part of a cycle of longevity practices involving Mandarava, a dakini and important spiritual companion of Padmasambhava, who himself helped to establish Vajrayana Buddhism as the State Religion in 8th century Tibet.

The instructions and recipe were revealed in 1985 and Norbu Rinpoche believed that through its practice he was able to greatly extend his own life. Although this formula can be used in the same way as our other Chulen, one can also seek out the transmission for the associated practice from a qualified teacher in the lineage of Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche and take it in concert with that practice.

Norbu Rinpoche himself had this to say about Chulen:

“It is important to remember that Chulen is teaching. Many people think that it is a kind of vitamin or a kind of strengthening medicine. There are in fact many medical substances in Chulen pills or paste for strengthening our energy, but our existence is not only material. If we were only a physical body we could, of course, reinforce ourselves with just medicine, but (as) we are always saying, our existence consists of body, voice and mind. Chulen is for reinforcing and coordinating (these) three fundamental aspects of our existence.”

There are several kinds of Chulen used in Tibetan Buddhist practice. Extracts of minerals, subterranean earth, herbs and metals are all used to make these 'spiritual vitamins'. This formula is made for us by Amchi Tenzin Sherab, a traditional Tibetan doctor who lives in Pharping, Nepal, where Guru Padmasambhava himself practiced meditation. Norbu Rinpoche specifically requested that Amchi Sherab prepare these pills for Norbu Rinpoche's worldwide community.

For more information about Chulen in general, please see our other Chulen offerings.

Each bottle contains 28 pellets.

Directions: Take 1 or 2 pellets early in the morning with warm water. To refrain from eating for at least 30 minutes increases the efficacy of the formula. Meditation, Centering Prayer, yogic practices and breath work are encouraged. If you are using this formula as a support for fasting, it may be necessary to take more pellets later in the day, depending on your practice.

As with all types of herbal formula, if you have any health conditions please check with your doctor before using.
